Microsoft releases new website to kill IE6

Microsoft has released a new website with the expressed aim of killing
off its Internet Exploder 6 browser. The browser was released 10 years
ago. The new website is dedicated to tracking IE6’s dwindling market
share and encouraging users to upgrade to a more modern browser. IE6 was
probably the most successful browser in history and Microsoft took a
lot of time and money to make it so. It also has to spend millions per
year trying to fix IE6 security vulnerabilities.
Strangely there
are still 12% use IE6. Although the situation is worse in places like
China where 34.5% of users are still on IE 6. South Korea, India,
Taiwan, Saudi Arabia and Vietnam also still report more than 10% IE 6
usage.
On its new website, IE6Countdown.com, Microsoft is making
its most concentrated effort yet to get users to move away from the
decade-old browser. The goal of the website is to get Internet Explorer
6 usage to drop to less than 1% worldwide.
